I figured I should start updating this with actual useful stuff. I have now been sick for a week and am most excessively miserable about it. Basically, nasty sore throat, extreme congestion the likes of which I haven't had for a WHILE, a little cough just in the past few days, and fatigue. While I have certain hours each day that are generally pleasant, I spend most of my time now feeling downright shitty. Thankfully, I woke up this morning with the feeling that I might be getting better. FINALLY. I'm lucky enough to have seen a doctor twice this week at the University Health Services. (I'm told it is quite rare to get actual useful help from an actual medical doctor.) They took a throat culture and gave me some pennicilin the first time, telling me to take it for three days while my results came back. (I'm out of pennicilin and they haven't called about my throat culture, which means it's negative.) The second time they did bloodwork for a mono test, which came back negative. However, I was also told that mono tests generally come back negative until you have it for two or more weeks. So if I'm STILL sick in another week or so, I could very well have mono and would have to get MORE bloodwork. Fortunately, I had an excellent nurse who did it who was very nice and quick about it, so it wasn't that bad. So, basically, the conclusion of this is that I have a virus. Probably not mono, because I'm not falling down tired, just the sort of general exhaustion that usually accompanies your body spending energy fighting off some shitty invader, but just a nasty virus that is clinging on for more than a week. I'm being an exceptionally good girl and getting a lot of rest, drinking a lot of water, gargling warm saltwater, and taking a LOT of drugs. I mean a LOT. I was poppin' Ibuprofin (3 pills at once, doctor's orders), Sudafed (2), and Pennicilin (1) all at once in the morning at at night until I ran out of Pennicilin this morning. Fun. I feel like I'm eighty or something.

Now that I'm done bitching and moaning, it's on the GOOD NEWS. You might have heard that I didn't get cast in either of the two shows at Todd, which are the sort've "official" shows of the Theatre Department. However, there seem to be two student-run shows this fall, Titus Andronicus and Harvey. When I wasn't on the cast lists for the shows at Todd, I figured I'd audition for Titus, which was first up for auditions. I went, got called back, and, lo and behond, got a PART. Not only did I get a part, but I got what is probably the best role I've ever been offered: TITUS ANDRONICUS. No, I don't know what my director is on, but I love her for giving me the title role of a Shakespearean tragedy. I'm going from a general feeling of contentment that I try to keep in mind over the misery of illness to occassional bursts of energy spent mentally squealing like a five-year-old over the cast list, which I have read multiple times in my e-mail inbox to make sure I didn't imagine it.

So, what now... Classes? British Lit has the unfortunate luck to be taught by a generally nice, but rather boring professor who likes to talk a lot. Intro to Shakespeare is the most awesome class EVER and I want to marry the professor. Advanced French is horribly intimidating for some reason, but the professor is very nice, especially about your mind going blank because you cannot think of a question in ENGLISH, much less translate it into French. And Psych 101 is a larger lecture class, but the professor has an awesome sense of humor. So I'm generally enjoying myself.

I really think the only reason I've been feeling homesick is because I'm so sick. I've never had to be sick away from my mother--at least not for very long. I got sick at camp one time, but she was there the next morning to pick me up. Somewhere, I still feel like that's what should be happening. My mom should be driving five hours to pick me up at camp--college, for now--and take me home, feed me chicken soup, and put me to bed. I miss my mom. In the week or so before I got sick, I don't think I really missed home. It wasn't until I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep because my throat hurt so much and I was crying and calling my mother that I wanted to hear, "I'm going to come pick you up now. Don't worry. I'll take care of you." I've been trying to take care of myself, but it's hard. Not physically, because I'm used to being sick. I've been sick before. But emotionally. I want my mom like I did in kindergarden when I woke up Sunday morning and stared at the ceiling and cried because it hurt for me to swallow and it shouldn't hurt to do something you have to do all the time.

My roommate hasn't shown up yet. It's weird really; it's both good and bad. I'm not going to get lonely from not having someone around 24:7. I will get lonely if I just feel like I don't have friends, but that's not the case now, so I can sit by myself for enormously long stretches. After all, I'm an introvert. I need breaks from social interaction, especially when I'm still really getting to know the people, like I am now.

There's some sort of party in my hallway. I just had to open my door and ask a boy to stop doing a stupid squeaky thing.

I don't know what else to say. My hallmate introduced me to the most amazing piece of Harry Potter MWPP fanfiction in the entire universe, and you should go read it: [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project. Now. I don't care if you don't like Remus/Sirius slash. You will after you read this. I did.

I don't think I know what to say anymore.

Okay, I had TWO chapters of French to do, but I did them, my cramps have stopped, my throat is almost fine, and I figured out that my appointment couldn't possibly be at seven in the MORNING because the UHS is open from nine to nine. I'm feeling much better. ^_^
slavetothestage: (Default)
I'm sitting here with a chapter of french homework left to do, a bad sore throat that might be strep that I have to go to a 7:00 appointment tomorrow morning for, my second period in the past week, cramps because of it, and the cast list for the fall plays that was supposed to go up at noon still isn't up.

I just want my mother.

I have gotten two hours of sleep in the last thirty-six hours! I just directed a play for a 24-Hour Play Festival. This is when really STUPID, CRAZY people decide that it will be cool to stay up twenty-four hours straight and conceive, write, cast, direct, and perform four new plays.

It's CRAZY. But AWESOME.

Well, everyone...I'm off to college. We're packing up the computer, so the next post I make will be from the University of Rochester. I'm gonna miss everyone so freaking much. Some of you I miss already. It's been great in Pennsylvania.

I don't like being touched when I'm upset.

I didn't figure this out until yesterday when my mom mentioned it after watching Ordinary People.

And now I was made sure of it.

I'm going to my first funeral on Monday.

Okay, I want the following people to not click the link that will follow:

People who are scared of spiders. (CHRISTINE)
People who are scared of scorpions.
People who are scared of bugs in general.
People with weak stomachs.
People who are shy of sexual matters.
People with common decency.
People who are absolutely normal.

The picture I'm going to link to is a set of two French ads against AIDS.

THE FRENCH HAVE PROBLEMS.

For all of you Spanish-takers, the line reads, "Without protection/a condom, you're making love with AIDS. Protect yourself."

Frankly, I don't see how the people in either of those pictures could contract AIDS.

This is your LAST WARNING. This picture is MESSED UP.

If you click here, you are a sick, masochistic bastard.

Wow, this totally fed my ego. XD

All-Around Awesome

You have:
77% SCIENTIFIC INTUITION and
77% EMOTIONAL INTUITION
The graph on the right represents your place in Intuition 2-Space. As you can see, you scored well above average on emotional intuition and well above average on scientific intuition. (Weirdly, your emotional and scientific intuitions are equally strong.)

Your Emotional Intuition
score is a measure of how well you understand people, especially their
unspoken needs and sympathies. A high score score usually indicates
social grace and persuasiveness. A low score usually means you're good
at Quake.

Your Scientific Intuition
score tells you how in tune you are with the world around you; how well
you understand your physical and intellectual environment. People with
high scores here are apt to succeed in business and, of course, the
sciences.

My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

"A US court has granted Colin Farrell a restraining order against a former lover allegedly trying to sell a video of them having sex. Farrell claims the video was made two and a half years ago in private and that he and model Nicole Narain had an agreement not to share its contents. The 29-year-old is suing Narain, 31, alleging she approached the media and offered them the 15-minute tape - and he argues the release of the tape would greatly harm his reputation and career."

Colin, we don't need to see the tape for it to harm your reputation. Fifteen minutes?

Today I finally came to learn what "non-plussed" REALLY means. It was one of the words that I saw so often in literature I had made up a definition and then found other instances in literature where my definition REALLY didn't fit. So I finally bit the bullet and looked it up in the dictionary.

I love finally knowing what words mean.

So after talking to four different people total for a combined time of somewhere around five or six hours, I have FINALLY succeeded in getting HP to replace my faulty iPod. Huzzah!

And now it is almost three in the morning and I can't sleep. Poo.

But I've got a job interview at Capri's Pizza on Wednesday! Huzzah!

Still three in the morning without sleep. Poo.

Wheee. It's 4:10 in the morning! Fwoosh! Yes, I'm in Charleston. Yes, there's lots of sun here. Yes, it's 90-some degrees, you bastards in PA 70 degree weather. Yes, there are lots of hot guys in Charleston. No, I'm not having random hookups. I actually HAVE been outside in the sun. Unbeknownst to all you in Pennsylvania, I DO have a reaction to sun exposure; I'll show you all of the freckles that are new when I get back. ;)

But yes, I'm having fun. I can't sleep at the moment, but I'm not going to tell you all why. Hah! Well, maybe I'll end up telling some of you. Is it possible to do something you have previously said people shouldn't do without feeling any regret whatsoever? Wow, now people are going to get bad ideas about me. It's not that bad. ;)

Oh, by the way, I'm eighteen! Whee!

Tom Cruise. Buddy. What happened to you? You used to be America's favorite guy! You were the young, charming, hot Top Gun Maverick! Okay, you broke up with Nicole Kidman. America got over it. Scientology? Okay, you're a bit weird. The whole Katie Holmes thing is a bit creepy. Psychiatry is a JOKE SCIENCE? Brooke Shields should have NEVER TAKEN ANTIDEPRESSENTS FOR POST-PARTUM DEPRESSION?! No one should EVER take psychiatric drugs? You're going to talk about your new girlfriend for HALF AN HOUR on Oprah and then MAKE OUT WITH HER? WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?! TOM, NOOOOOO!

AUGH.
